Have you ever seen an ostrich up close? If you haven't, we have the perfect opportunity for you to get up close and personal with this impressive bird. The newest members of Dreams Eco Park are ostriches, and they have come to be part of our Mini Farm. And I'm going to tell you a bit about these incredible animals and how you can get to know them.
Ostriches.
Ostrichesare birds native to Africa, but they can easily be found and bred elsewhere. They can live up to 70 years and are land birds, considered to be the largest birds on Earth, reaching a height of 3 meters and weighing around 150 kgs.
And even the eggs of these birds are large, and can weigh up to 1.4 kilos, equivalent to about 20 eggs of an average chicken.
Because of the sheer weight of these animals, they are unable to fly. But that doesn't mean they don't have other abilities. They are very efficient animals in their terrestrial locomotion, and can reach up to 70km\h over short and long distances.
Ostriches are omnivorous animals, i.e. they feed on a variety of plants, seeds, insects and small animals.
Ostriches don't have real teeth, like many other birds, but their complex digestive system, divided into parts, functions as teeth. The ostrich's stomach can measure up to 46 meters, depending on the individual.
Although they are very strong animals, when they feel threatened they tend to run and hide from their predators rather than attack. However, when necessary, they attack with their legs, as they are strong animals that cause great impact, and they also have sharp claws.
They can see their predators from far away because of their excellent eyesight and the large eyes on the side of their head, giving them a 360-degree panoramic view.
It's always good to remember that they are wild animals, and when they feel threatened they can attack, and shouldn't be touched! But here, we have all the security you need to enjoy this bird without risk.
Ostriches at Dreams Eco Park

Dreams Eco Park is open every day of the week and is located in Remanso Grande, next to the Dreams Park Show Complex. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
