Crioulo: the Golden Horse

the Golden Horse

The Strength and Endurance of the Golden Horse

A walk through the history of South America and the Border through the origins of the Creole breed. Accompanying the process of colonization in the 16th century came equines, which spread across the pampas of Rio Grande do Sul, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile and Peru.

Wild animals faced extreme cold and harsh feeding conditions, naturally becoming an increasingly robust, resilient and strong species. These characteristics were strengthened by the technical selection applied later, in the 20th century, which was aimed at the best and most skillful specimens.

The search for the most beautiful and hardiest animals gave rise to the Freio de Ouro event, known as the breed's most complete selection tool, in which competitors are rigorously evaluated and judged on exclusive characteristics.

The culture surrounding the origins and creation of the breed is represented daily at the Eco Park, at 10am and 3.30pm, before the Flight of the Birds of Prey sessions.
