Residents of Foz do Iguaçu can learn about Eco Park's work in caring for animals and the Atlantic Forest for free during the vacations and also contribute to the protection of the jaguars that live in the Iguaçu National Park (PNI).
To receive the fare exemption, Iguassu residents must be accompanied by a paying tourist. It's the "Resident Host" campaign.
To do this, you need to show proof of residence and a personal photo ID.
Part of the ticket price goes to sponsor the Ciscando o Futuro project, which is building jaguar-proof chicken coops and adding value to the products made on properties bordering the PNI, which can be sold under the "Friends of the Jaguar" label. The program's first chicken coop was inaugurated in November in Matelândia.
All this care is taken because one of the biggest threats to these cats is hunting in retaliation for attacks on domestic animals on farms, ranches or country estates.
What's the tour like?
The Eco Park is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Inside, you can learn about the origins and special care of the various species that live on the farm. Among them are horses, sheep, mini pigs, guinea pigs, cows, goats and sheep, as well as a couple of llamas and a pair of ostriches. During the tour, with instructions from the Eco Park team, you can interact with and even feed the animals.
After the tour of the little farm, visitors can visit the "Bird Immersion" aviary. There are dozens of species of birds in the enclosure. Most of them arrived at Eco Park after being rescued from wildlife trafficking and mistreatment.
To complete the visit, there is a presentation of the horses and the flight of the birds of prey. It's a moment of education and learning about the protection and rehabilitation of birds of prey that have been taken in.
The team of falconers at Eco Park rehabilitate the birds to fly and behave naturally, leading them to live a life in accordance with the biology of each species and encouraging positive levels of well-being. You can watch the birds fly in search of food.
The instructors also explain the origins of the art of falconry and its historical importance in the development of society and the conservation of birds.
