Children experience a farmer's day at Eco Park

The holiday of October 12 was a memorable one for the children and adults who visited Eco Park in Foz do Iguaçu.

Boys and girls were able to help the biologists care for the animals, feed the rabbits, sheep, goats and cows and take part in a treasure hunt.

For some children it was the first time they had had such close contact with animals.

Guided by biologists, the children also created mobiles for the macaws that live in the "Bird Immersion" aviary. The aim was to encourage the birds to express their natural behavior of investigating objects and wearing down their beaks by interacting with the mobiles.

Of all the animals, the rabbits were the most popular with the children. They belong to a breed of giant animals, all of which arrived at the Eco Park just two months ago and are expected to grow a lot more, without losing their tenderness and affection for visitors.

Children and adults also visited the macaws, parrots, fish and turtles that live in the aviary. The aviary is home to birds rescued from wildlife trafficking and mistreatment. They receive daily attention from specialists in the field of biodiversity conservation, including biologists, veterinarians, caretakers and attendants.

After learning about the routine of the animals in practice, children and adults watched the countryside performance with the Criollo horses, a typical breed from the south of Brazil. The riders perform various evolutions with the animals, showing the harmony between man and horse, the result of a lot of training to achieve such perfection.

To top it all off, visitors saw a performance by birds of prey, including hawks, owls and vultures, in the art of falconry.

It does a lot of good
"This interaction between animals and children does a lot of good, especially for those of us who live in big cities and don't have this opportunity. It was an incredible trip. We were fascinated by the place," said Aldemar and Tereza Paiva, together with their daughter Laura, from Belo Horizonte.

Foz do Iguaçu resident Liliane Caroline Servati was at the Eco Park for the second time with her children Teodoro and Maya. The children actively participated in the activities proposed for the day, such as painting small wooden stumps for the macaws to gnaw on. "They really enjoyed feeding the rabbits and playing in the playground at the entrance to the park."
