Onças do Iguaçu and Eco Park inaugurate the first chicken coop of the Ciscando o Futuro program

The first chicken coop in the Ciscando o Futuro Program was inaugurated this
week on Leila Rodrigues' property in Picada Benjamin, Matelândia. The
construction of the space is the result of a partnership between the Onças project
do Iguaçu and Eco Park, with the support of the Iguaçu National Park.

The aim of Ciscando o Futuro is to add value to the production of eggs and
free-range chickens on rural properties bordering the park, especially those
that are vulnerable to attacks by jaguars. As well as the chicken coop,
it has received 20 breeding hens. This will improve the quality of the eggs
they produce, increasing the families' income. "With this new
structure I can buy another 200 hens and look after them with
security", said the producer.

The program came about after jaguars attacked some of the neighboring properties.
"In Leila's case, she had her sheep attacked by jaguars. With this project
we offer families another source of income and protect the jaguars," explained
Yara Barros, coordinator of Onças do Iguaçu.

In addition to the chicken coop on Leila's farm, as and when
identifies properties at risk, enclosures will be built
so that the birds can live in a semi-open system.

"We're very happy with this joint effort, because Onças Iguaçu is a benchmark
in caring for animals and nature," explained Eco Park's institutional coordinator
, Igor Morais.

After the chicken coop, the Eco Park will sponsor the construction of kennels to
house dogs at night on vulnerable properties and thus prevent the
predation of dogs by jaguars. And it has committed to installing information signs about the cats in its
visitor area. "A jaguar that has a friend has everything.
Our jaguars are grateful for this support," said Yara.

Iguassu Jaguars

Onças do Iguaçu is an ICMBio institutional project, developed in partnership with the Pro Carnivores Institute and the Iguaçu National Park.

The mission is to conserve the jaguar as a key species of the park's
biodiversity. The project develops actions in three main areas
: research, engagement and coexistence.

Man and nature

The Eco Park is a space dedicated to showing the relationship between human beings and
animals, encouraging connection and respect for nature.

It is open daily from 9am to 5.30pm. The presentations of the Birds of
Prey and the Criollo Horse take place at two times: at 10 a.m. and at 3.30 p.m. with
lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Between these times it is possible to visit the Mini
Farm and interact with the animals with the help of the staff.

Between 9 a.m. and 5.30 p.m., you can visit the Mini Farm, which has cows,
sheep, rams, llamas, ostriches, mini pigs, giant rabbits, mini
goats, among other animals that were important for the formation of
societies.

Another experience is the "Bird Immersion" aviary. There are more than 50 birds from the
Atlantic Forest in a huge vivarium where visitors can observe and learn
about their routine. All of them arrived at the ecological park through
rescue actions, whether due to mistreatment or trafficking in wild animals.
