Imersão das Aves, the new enclosure at Dreams Eco Park in Foz do Iguaçu, received more than 500 visits from Brazilians and residents of neighboring countries on the first weekend after opening.
Macarena Altamirano came with her family from Rosario, Argentina, to visit Foz do Iguaçu. Among the tours chosen by the family, the new enclosure is among their favorites.
"The children loved it. It's the first time they've had such close contact with birds. It's certainly an experience they'll carry with them for life," said Macarena, alongside her husband Brian and their children Zoe and Alejo.
Sérgio Zapp, from Rio de Janeiro, returned to Foz after more than 40 years. "I was impressed by how much this city has grown and how many options there are for the whole family," he said. And, according to Zapp, he had never visited a place like Dreams Eco Park. "The flight of the birds of prey and the close contact with the birds was incredible," he said. He added. "I'm going back with my grandchildren. Children need to see this place".
Businesswoman Beatriz Oliveira came from Curitiba with her children and husband. She said that one of the birds on the "Bird Immersion" tour stayed on her husband's back the whole time. "We heard here that many animals recognize human beings as family members, I think it thought my husband was its father," she said.
According to Eco Park veterinarian Stacy Wu, most of the animals in the enclosure have been "Imprinted". In other words, these birds were improperly raised by humans and therefore recognize their protector in humans. "The birds that are part of the Bird Immersion are victims of mistreatment or wildlife trafficking and are unable to return to the wild," she explained.
The space
The "Bird Immersion" is 700 square meters, 6 meters high and can hold 200 birds of various species. In this first phase it will house around 50 birds, from baby birds to macaws. Among them are parrots, an oriole, a peppered beak, a canary, an azure-winged warbler, a curio, a collared bunting, peacocks and geese. A couple of tortoises also live there.
