With the aim of complying with modern zoo concepts, Eco Park Foz, in Foz do Iguaçu, has renewed its partnership with the Onças do Iguaçu project, whose mission is to protect the jaguar, an essential feline for the ecosystem of the Iguaçu National Park.
The collaboration aims to strengthen support for the promotion of projects such as "Ciscando o Futuro" (Scratching the Future), which helps small producers to build chicken coops, thus preventing jaguars from attacking the birds.
Another project is Onça Grafiteira, a measure to use urban art as a tool to raise awareness and value conservation culture. One of the latest paintings was in the area of the International Friendship Bridge, the main link between Brazil and Paraguay.
With the renewal of the partnership, Eco Park Foz will continue to pass on materials and equipment used to monitor jaguars in the wild.
In her store, she also sells stuffed animal gifts produced by the "Crocheteiras do Iguaçu", a social project whose aim is to support women from around the Iguaçu National Park by generating alternative income, combining crochet with jaguar conservation.
"Our partnership with Onças do Iguaçu is over two years old. And we're going to continue, because we understand that this project is necessary for the preservation of the species," said Leandro Mautone, founding partner of Eco Park Foz. In 2023, the unit supported the publication of the book "Caring for Dogs and Iguassu Jaguars".
The Eco Park
The Eco Park tour includes a visit to a farm with domestic animals and an immersion nursery that has been a new home for birds and reptiles that have suffered at human hands due to mistreatment.
You can also watch exercise demonstrations by the Creole horse, a typical Brazilian breed, and the flight of the birds of prey, the only one of its kind in South America so far. The flight of the birds of prey takes place every day at 10.30am and 4pm.
Another opportunity to get close to the animals is in the Primate Forest, the only immersion nursery in Brazil.
Residents of Foz do Iguaçu pay R$25. For this you need to show a photo ID and proof of residence. Children under six get in free.
Tickets can be purchased on the website: www.dreamsecopark.com.br. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
