Dreams Eco Park is the new home of an abused caturrite

A caturrita, also called a cocota, has a new home. Since last week she has been living in the "Immersion of Birds" aviary along with 50 other birds of various species, including two macaws, at Dreams Eco Park in Foz do Iguaçu,

The cockatoo now flies around, receives care from biologists and a balanced diet. But it wasn't always like this. She was delivered to Dreams Eco Park with signs of poisoning and one of her wings had been clipped, so she was very weak and had difficulty flying.

As soon as she was welcomed by the park's team of biologists and veterinarians, she received medical attention and was placed in quarantine until she was ready to join the other birds in the Bird Immersion.

During the treatment, Caturrita's health deteriorated. In addition to her severed wing, she had heavy metals in her ventricle (gizzard).

According to veterinarian Stacy Wu, this is one of the consequences of illegally housing wild birds without respecting their physiology and behavior, and thus making mistakes in management. "Heavy metal poisoning occurs after ingesting materials containing the toxic substance, such as rusty cages, wall paint and grouting," she explained.

After being diagnosed, Caturrita was treated with fluid therapy, liver protection and natural soluble fiber. "It took 20 days of intense care. We're happy because we managed to eliminate the foreign body and, on discharge, she was transferred to the Immersion Nursery," said the veterinarian.

Man and nature

Dreams Eco Park is a space for raising awareness and caring for birds, animals and the Atlantic rainforest. The main focus is to tell the story of man's relationship with animals through animal conditioning demonstrations, controlled interactions between visitors and the species under their care and artistic exhibitions.

The park is open daily from 9am to 5:30pm. The Criollo Horse and Birds of Prey presentations take place at two times, in the morning at 10am and in the afternoon at 3.30pm.

Between 9 a.m. and 5.30 p.m., you can visit the Mini Farm, which has cows, sheep, rams, llamas, ostriches, mini pigs, among other animals that were important for the formation of societies.

Another experience is the "Bird Immersion" aviary. There are more than 50 birds from the Atlantic Forest in a huge vivarium where visitors can observe and learn about the routine of these animals. All of them arrived at the ecological park as a result of rescue actions, either due to mistreatment or trafficking in wild animals.
